Cardinal Newman Athletics Weekly Update

Save the date!  Homecoming is just a few weeks away so be sure to mark your calendar for October 7th as we will have activities planned for that weekend starting with hosting Hammond in Football Friday Night!

Cheerleading Competition Schedule has been released as they kick of their season October 8th at The Kings Cheer Classic in Florence October 8th!  
 
Cross Country has been busy this season and most recently the Girls Team finished 3rd in the Highlander Invitational back on September 10th and this past weekend top girls runner Caroline Timmons set a new school record at the Lake Murray Invitational running a time of 19:05!   They are back in action on September 28th at the Pelion Invitational.  
 
Western Equestrian has their first competition hosted by Hammond coming up on September 24th at SC Equine Park in Camden! Wishing the best of luck to our team in our first year of having a full team entering competitions! 
 
Football- Middle School Football is back in action this week on Thursday September 22nd at Northside Christian 6pm.  Varsity Football currently 2-2 on the season will look to rebound on the road at Ben Lippen on Friday September 23rd at 730pm.  Ticket info is below: 
 
 
Shoutout to our Chain Crew (John Bull, Sean Briody, Gabe Del Rossie and Rob Daniels) being named the SCISA Farm Burreau Insurance Chain Crew of the week!
 
Swimming had an excellent season debut as the Girls went 4-0 and the boys went 3-1 at the Quad Duel Meets last Wednesday.

Volleyball-  Both Middle School teams went undefeated this past week picking up wins against Westside Christian and Thomas Sumter.  Both teams are on the road this week against Wilson Hall and Lee Academy and then host the Middle School Cardinal Newman Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.  JV Volleyball is back in action this week hosting Hammond and Ben Lippen before hitting the road this weekend for the Hillcrest JV Tournament.  Varsity Volleyball back on September 10th won the Hillcrest Volleyball Tournament where Anna Logan Gillens and Victoria Harris were named to the All-Tournament Team.  Anna Logan Gillens also during the Hillcrest Tournament broke the Cardinal Newman School All-Time Record for Career Kills with 1,342 and counting!  This past weekend the Cardinals traveled to Dorman High School for the Tournament of Champions where the competition was the best of the best.  Congrats to Anna Logan Gillens and Karlese Sears for being named to the All Tournament Team!  The Cardinal will host region play this week Hammond on Tuesday and Ben Lippen on Thursday so be sure to pack the gym! 
 
Girls Golf- Payton Burch continues her hot streak finishing as the Medalist last Thursday at Orangeburg Country Club.  Before that the team picked up a nice road win at Pinewood Prep on September 6th and then finished 2nd on September 8th in a home match vs AC Flora and Lugoff- Elgin.  Busy week this week as the team will have 3 straight away matches Monday, Tuesday and Thursday! 
 
Girls Tennis- Varsity picked up a much needed road win at Camden last Tuesday 4-2 (Winners- Fallaw, Camps, Mustain, and Laubacker)!  This week the Varsity is home for two region matches between Hammond and Ben Lippen and JV will travel to both of those schools (Tuesday Hammond, Thursday Ben Lippen).  
 
 
If you are interested in off season workouts for Girls Basketball please email Coach Johnson ([email protected]) to get your name added to the list for workouts.  Lifting is Tuesdays 4-515pm after school in the field house and skill development will be on Thursday evenings and Saturday Mornings but please get exact schedule from Coach Johnson.
