For the third straight year, our Women's Basketball team clenched the SCISA 3A State Championship. After a 53-33 win over Florence Christian on Friday evening, the Cardinals advanced to the finals, where they were able to come from behind to beat Northwood Academy 53-43. “We started out rough but we came back strong,” Ashlyn Watkins said. “I was telling them to keep it up, that we got this, we’re still in the game. We beat them before, and we can beat them again.” The win was the third consecutive title for Cardinal Newman and the first under new head coach Asia Dozier who took over the program last April. “I walked into a good situation, a good team already, had some new pieces come and join us,” Dozier said. “It was a winning culture. They knew what it felt like. They knew what it took to get to this point, and what it took to win.” A huge congratulations to the team, coaches and staff on this incredible accomplishment. You make us all proud!
